Muhammad Ilyas Sheikh
Muhammad Ilyas Sheikh's illustrious career in law commenced after completing his foundational education at Gordon College, Rawalpindi, followed by an LLB from the prestigious Punjab University. His journey in the legal field took flight in May 1985 when he was admitted as an advocate to the District Court, marking the beginning of an extraordinary legal odyssey. By June 1987, his expertise and dedication propelled him to the High Court, and in 2001, he achieved the distinguished status of Advocate Supreme Court, a testament to his profound knowledge and legal acumen.
Muhammad Ilyas Sheikh's leadership capabilities shone brightly during his tenure as the President of the District Bar Association, Rawalpindi, in 2003-2004, where he was instrumental in advocating for the rights of legal practitioners and enhancing the standards of legal practice.
He embarked on his legal journey by initiating practice in civil courts, where he handled numerous trial cases upon becoming an advocate of the district court. Following this, he continued his legal pursuits in various high courts, including the Islamabad High Court, overseeing a plethora of cases. As he ascended to the position of an advocate of the supreme court, his caseload expanded, with him successfully managing over 500 cases to date. Presently, he navigates through a diverse array of cases across all branches of civil law, from the lower courts to the apex court of Pakistan.
With unwavering dedication and divine grace, he has achieved remarkable success throughout his career. His mentorship has extended to over 150 associates, guiding them to flourish in various fields of civil law. Committed to nurturing young legal minds, he shares his expertise through lectures conducted across various branches of civil law in Rawalpindi. Additionally, he has overseen preparatory courses for civil judges and additional district judges under the auspices of the bar association.
Actively participating in movements advocating for the rule of law, the supremacy of the constitution, and the dignity of the legal community and judiciary, he has been a stalwart leader. As the president of the District Bar Rawalpindi from 2003 to 2004, he led efforts to uphold the rule of law and restore democracy. Notably, he played a pivotal role in laying the foundation of the judicial complex.
Throughout his 40-year career, he has been revered not only for his unparalleled expertise in the courtroom but also for his principled approach to law, embodying integrity, justice, and an unwavering commitment to his clients. Talha Ilyas Sheikh
Talha Ilyas Sheikh is a UK-qualified Barrister and one of Pakistan’s youngest Advocates of the Supreme Court. He obtained his LLB (Hons) from the University of London in 2014 and was called to the Bar of England and Wales by the Honourable Society of Lincoln’s Inn in 2016. He is an accredited Mediator, Arbitrator, Digital Dispute Resolution Specialist (DDRS), and Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (MCIArb).
He leads a team of barristers and advocates and heads the firm’s litigation and advisory practice. He appears before trial courts, tribunals, High Courts, and the Supreme Court, representing corporations and public bodies in civil, commercial, corporate, constitutional, and arbitral matters.
His reported cases include Pak Gulf Construction v. Abdul Hameed Baig (2019 MLD 1178), where he overturned a multimillion-dollar arbitral award; Pak Gulf Construction v. Godwin Austen Johnson (2024 CLD 1451), clarifying the grounds for setting aside awards; Shaheen Chemist v. Zahid Mehmood Chaudhry (2023 CLD 1), defining IP Tribunal jurisdiction; and Jadeed Feeds Industries v. Board of Revenue Punjab (2025 CLD 587), resolving a corporate-merger dispute.
He has assisted courts in key ADR judgments, including PLD 2024 Lahore 545 on mandatory mediation, 2025 CLC 181 on enforcement of awards, and 2024 CLD 990 on judicial restraint in arbitration.
Talha created the Pakistan Mediation Movement platform and works with the judiciary to establish Court-Annexed Mediation Centres. In 2025, he convened Pakistan’s first International ADR Symposium at the High Court Bar level, bringing together international and local judges, academics, and policymakers to promote ADR and strengthen justice delivery. He also speaks actively on legal reform, policy, and institutional development.
He has taught dispute resolution and legal writing at Fatima Jinnah Women University and collaborated with the Federal Judicial Academy for a training program for officers of the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan, as well as with Fulbright and Global Learning Online on legal education and ADR. He has been published in the Harvard Arbitration Blog and Corporate Law Digest, writing on arbitration, justice reform, and sustainable development.
He believes in disciplined advocacy, institutional reform, and service to the profession through law, learning, and leadership.
